I think service learning – where students practise their skills while working on a project for the benefit of the community – has real potential for law students.
Even Obama’s keen on it!: http://www.hks.harvard.edu/saguaro/pdfs/Statements%20of%20Support%20National_Service%20Plan%20FINAL.pdf
I know some Universities are already engaged in clinicial legal programmes, but it strikes me that there is a real chance to hone research skills while providing a benefit to, for example, NGOs or community groups involved in law-related advocacy.
This is something I would like to pioneer in DIT.
Let me know what you think!
