I will be attending the ‘Galway Symposium’ on ‘Design for Learning: Curriculum and Assessment in Higher Education’ at NUIG this Thursday and Friday. The conference looks extremely interesting with excellent key-note speakers: http://www.eventbrite.com/event/179601192
I have put together a poster on a new module for the Law Programmes at Dublin Institute of Technology called ‘Law in Society’. This module aims to provide law students with an opportunity to use their legal research skills for the benefit of Non-Governmental organisations for academic credit. There are a number of Students Learning with Communities (SLWC) programmes already present at DIT: www.communitylinks.dit.ie/slwc.
SLWC has real potential for law students. It assists them to apply their developing skills to ‘real life’, impresses a sense of responsibility to ‘clients’ upon them and develops abilities to self-evaluate performance when combined with reflection. It also assists higher education institutions to fulfil their obligations to wider society.
I hope to see you in NUIG this Thursday and Friday!
